**Madurai, January 12, 2025** – The Madurai City Police have announced comprehensive traffic restrictions in and around Avaniyapuram from Monday morning in anticipation of the annual Jallikattu bull-taming event scheduled for Tuesday. Several roads will be closed to vehicular traffic to manage the expected crowds.
Specific restrictions include the closure of routes from Periyar statue towards Avaniyapuram town, and from Ambedkar Statue junction towards Tirupparankundram. Vehicles headed to Tirupparankundram must use the Avaniyapuram bypass road and Vellaikkal. Similarly, traffic from Tirupparankundram to Avaniyapuram via Muthupatti junction will be prohibited, with an alternate route via Vellaikkal junction, Kalkulam, and the bypass road. Access to Avaniyapuram town via Marudupandiar statue junction and Ayyanar Temple will also be blocked.
Designated parking areas have been established for both spectators and vehicles transporting bulls. Bulls are to be dropped off at Tirupparankundram and Muthupatti junctions before proceeding to designated parking lots via the Avaniyapuram bypass and Vaikkam Periyar Nagar road. Spectators arriving from Madurai city should park at the D-Mart complex, while those from Perungudi and Semboorani Road should use the area near K4 hotel. Vehicles from Tirupparankundram and Muthupatti are directed to park at the SPJ school premises. After the event, bulls will be transported out via the Avaniyapuram bypass road and Semboorani Road junction. The police have urged cooperation from the public to ensure a smooth and safe Jallikattu event.
