Sat Jan 11 19:27:11 UTC 2025: ## Long-Awaited Vaduthala Overbridge in Kochi Gets Green Light

**KOCHI, January 12, 2025** – Construction of a long-awaited overbridge in Vaduthala, Kochi, is set to begin after the state government approved the ₹20.49 crore project. The bridge, designed to alleviate severe traffic congestion caused by narrow roads and a frequently closed railway level crossing, has received technical sanction and land acquisition is complete.

The project, which includes approach spans and roads built by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) and the railway span built by the Railways, aims to streamline traffic flow in a densely populated area. Residents have expressed relief, highlighting the significant delays and disruptions caused by the current bottleneck, with trains often halting traffic for extended periods.

MLA T.J. Vinod confirmed the government’s approval and the funding allocation, noting an increase in land acquisition from 42.92 ares to 60.15 ares due to design changes accommodating the planned expansion of the Ernakulam-Shoranur rail corridor. The bridge is expected to significantly benefit commuters from surrounding areas like Chittoor, Cheranalloor, Varapuzha, and Paravur. Before construction begins, utility posts and cables will need to be relocated.

Residents described the bridge as a long-held dream, recalling a previously failed attempt to build an elevated roundabout due to alleged vested interests. The project promises to significantly improve travel times and reduce congestion for people travelling between North Paravur, Kodungalloor, and Kochi.
