**SAN JOSE, CA –** The San Jose Earthquakes have announced the transfer of young goalkeeper Emmanuel Ochoa to Liga MX side Cruz Azul for a reported fee of $2 million plus a percentage of any future transfer. The 19-year-old Ochoa, a product of the Earthquakes’ academy, signed a homegrown contract with the club in 2019 at the age of 14.
While highly touted at a young age – at one point considered the second-youngest player to sign an MLS contract – Ochoa’s first-team appearances were limited to a single U.S. Open Cup match in 2024. He spent most of his time with the Earthquakes’ reserve team, San Jose’s MLS Next Pro affiliate, making 48 appearances.
The move comes as the Earthquakes’ starting goalkeeper position is solidified by Daniel, entering his third season with the club. The team recently added Earl Edwards Jr. via trade with the New England Revolution.
Ochoa, a dual national, has represented both the United States and Mexico at youth levels, most recently featuring for Mexico’s U-20 team. This transfer represents a significant investment for Cruz Azul and a notable opportunity for the young goalkeeper to further his career in Liga MX.
