Sun Jan 12 17:09:40 UTC 2025: **Kolkata Crowned India’s Most Congested City in 2024**

**KOLKATA, INDIA –** Kolkata has overtaken Bengaluru to become India’s most congested city in 2024, according to a new report by TomTom, a Dutch location technology specialist. Drivers in Kolkata experienced an average travel time of 34 minutes and 33 seconds to cover 10 kilometers, slightly edging out Bengaluru’s 34 minutes and 10 seconds. This translates to average speeds of 17.4 kmph and 17.6 kmph respectively.

Globally, Kolkata ranked second among the slowest cities, only behind Barranquilla, Colombia. Bengaluru and Pune also placed in the global top five most congested cities. Other Indian cities experiencing significant congestion include Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai. Surprisingly, New Delhi reported considerably lower congestion levels.

The TomTom Traffic Index analyzed data from over 458 billion miles of driving across 500 cities globally. The report highlights a general trend of increasing travel times, with 76% of the cities studied showing decreased average speeds compared to 2023. TomTom attributes this to outdated infrastructure, inefficient road planning, and the growing demands of urbanization. The company advocates for sustainable transportation solutions to mitigate these challenges. The report also notes that the data incorporates both static factors (road infrastructure) and dynamic factors (peak hour traffic and weather).

The report comes alongside news of other events, including India’s Largest Regional Retail Option Traders Summit (BOTS) organized by Traders Gurukul, and information on navigating and profiting from the crypto market.
