Sun Jan 12 01:17:40 UTC 2025: ## BCCI Holds Emergency Meeting After India’s Crushing Test Defeat

**Mumbai, January 11, 2025** – Following India’s 1-3 loss to Australia in the recent Test series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a three-hour meeting with captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar. The meeting, attended by BCCI secretary-in-waiting Devajit Saikia and former secretary Jay Shah, aimed to analyze the team’s performance and strategize for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

While sources deny immediate changes to the support staff, discussions focused on managing the coaching workload and a phased transition plan for the longer format. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to remain key players in the Champions Trophy squad, with Sharma retaining the captaincy.

The meeting comes after a challenging period for the Indian team, including a home Test series loss against New Zealand. The BCCI emphasized a focus on long-term planning rather than knee-jerk reactions. A source stated that the meeting involved “a discussion on how to plan things in the right direction, going forward.”

Separately, a felicitation ceremony for Jay Shah, newly elected International Cricket Council chair, was held, attended by state unit officials and National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman. The selection committee also met to discuss the Champions Trophy squad, with an official announcement expected within a week. The tournament begins February 19th in Pakistan and the UAE.
