**New Delhi, [Date of Publication]** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the start date for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla confirmed on Sunday that the tournament will commence on March 23rd.

The announcement came following a Special General Meeting (SGM) where Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were unanimously elected as the new secretary and treasurer, respectively, filling the vacancies left by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar. Shukla stated that the SGM focused solely on these elections and no other matters were discussed.

Further updates were also provided regarding the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the ICC Champions Trophy. Shukla revealed that the WPL venues are nearing finalization and will be announced shortly. He also confirmed that the selection meeting for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad will be held on January 18th or 19th.

The IPL 2025 mega auction, held in Jeddah last November, saw a total expenditure of ₹639.15 crore on 182 players across 10 franchises. Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history, acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore. Shreyas Iyer (₹26.75 crore) and Venkatesh Iyer (₹23.75 crore) also commanded significant bids.
