Sun Jan 12 12:30:57 UTC 2025: ## Jailed Pakistani Ex-PM Imran Khan Seeks Bail in May 9 Violence Cases

**Lahore, Pakistan –** Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former prime minister, has filed petitions with the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking post-arrest bail in eight cases stemming from the May 9, 2023, violence that followed his arrest. The petitions, filed Saturday, argue that the prosecution has failed to prove his involvement in the widespread attacks on military installations, including the residence of a senior army officer.

Khan contends that his inclusion in the cases is politically motivated, citing “frivolous and baseless allegations” already rejected due to inconsistencies in the investigation. He claims the primary charge against him, “abetment,” is vaguely presented and that he is a victim of “unprecedented political victimisation.”

The May 9 violence saw widespread attacks on military facilities by Khan’s supporters after his arrest. While Khan is named in twelve related cases, he has already secured bail in four. The LHC is expected to hear his petition on Monday. Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023.
