**Chennai, January 12, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Consumer Protection Organisation (TNCPO) has called on the state government to sell 20-litre cans of packaged drinking water at a subsidized price. This request, made at the organization’s 22nd annual meeting, stems from concerns about the quality of water supplied by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board. TNCPO president Paul Barnabas argued that while residents pay taxes and water charges, the water quality remains subpar, necessitating the provision of affordable, high-quality packaged water. The meeting also saw the release of cybercrime awareness flyers for distribution in educational institutions, with former Madras High Court judge S.K. Krishnan in attendance.
