Sat Jan 11 22:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Auburn Offers Scholarship to High School Sophomore Quarterback, Gunner Rivers

**BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AL.com) —** Gunner Rivers, the sophomore quarterback for St. Michael’s, is making waves in the college football recruiting world. Just days after leading his team to the Class 4A state semifinals, Rivers received a scholarship offer from Auburn University. The offer holds special significance for Rivers’ father, former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers, who was also recruited by Auburn 25 years ago.

Gunner, currently ranked the No. 2 prospect in the state for the Class of 2027, has already amassed impressive statistics in his young career, throwing for 7,024 yards and 65 touchdowns in two seasons as a starter. His performance this season alone saw him complete 63% of his passes for 3,947 yards and 36 touchdowns. He’s a finalist for Class 4A Back of the Year.

The attention hasn’t gone unnoticed. Alabama’s head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, along with other college coaches, have visited the young quarterback. While excited about the Auburn offer, Philip Rivers says his son is remaining grounded and focused on his high school career. Gunner reportedly hasn’t visited many college campuses and plans to take his time with the recruiting process. His father intends to help him explore more options this year.

Philip Rivers shared anecdotes about his own recruiting experience, highlighting the irony of his son receiving an offer from the same school that almost recruited him to play tight end. He emphasized his son’s humility and dedication to his team, stating that Gunner is “pretty much who he is going to be,” a talented pocket passer with room to further develop his skills.
