**Virudhunagar, January 12, 2025** – The Virudhunagar district administration has issued a plea to residents to refrain from burning old materials during the upcoming Bogi festival to safeguard environmental health and air quality. Collector V.P. Jeyaseelan stated that while the traditional practice of burning old items symbolized welcoming the new, the burning of modern materials like plastics, synthetic fibers, rubber, and chemically treated goods causes significant air pollution. The resulting noxious fumes can lead to respiratory issues, eye irritation, reduced visibility, and potentially increase the risk of traffic accidents. The administration encourages environmentally friendly alternatives to the traditional burning practices.
