Sat Jan 11 23:45:00 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh to Get India’s First Private Semiconductor Plant

**AMARAVATI, January 12, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh is set to become home to India’s first private semiconductor manufacturing facility, thanks to a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Saturday. Indichip Semiconductors Limited, in a joint venture with Japan’s Yitoa Micro Technology Limited (YMTL), will invest over ₹14,000 crore in the project.

The facility, located in the Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub in Kurnool, will focus on producing silicon carbide (SiC) chips. This aligns with India’s push for technological advancement and sustainable energy solutions, addressing the growing global demand for energy-efficient technologies in electric vehicles and renewable energy.

The plant will initially produce 10,000 wafers per month, scaling up to 50,000 within two to three years. Andhra Pradesh’s government has pledged to provide necessary land, infrastructure, and support for the project, reflecting its broader policy to establish the state as a hub for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.

IT Minister Nara Lokesh lauded the investment as a testament to the state’s attractive investment climate, while Industries Minister T.G. Bharath highlighted the project’s job creation potential and its boost to ancillary industries. Indichip representatives emphasized the company’s commitment to nation-building through technological innovation and contributing to the global semiconductor industry. The MoU was signed in Hyderabad in the presence of key government officials and representatives from both Indichip and YMTL.
