**New Delhi, January 11, 2025** – A new Vande Bharat Express train, specially designed for challenging winter conditions, will soon connect Jammu to the Kashmir Valley, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced. The minister shared a video showcasing the train’s features, highlighting its advanced heating systems designed to prevent freezing of water and bio-toilet tanks, even in sub-zero temperatures. The train also boasts climate-controlled features in addition to standard amenities such as air conditioning, automatic doors, and mobile charging points.
The 111-km Banihal-Katra section of the new rail line, featuring 97 km of tunnels and 4 major bridges, has recently completed final safety inspections. The redevelopment of Jammu station, which will include eight platforms and modern amenities, is also underway. Railway officials expect this world-class travel experience to begin later this year. The completion of this rail link marks a significant achievement, ending the long wait for direct train connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Jammu.
