**Mangaluru, January 11, 2025** – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lauded Kambala, the traditional buffalo race of coastal Karnataka, as a secular sport that unites people, during his attendance at the Lava-Kusha Jodu Kare Naringana Kambalotsava in Mangaluru on Saturday. He highlighted the state government’s commitment to preserving this cultural tradition, citing the lifting of the ban on Kambala under his administration and the financial support provided to Kambala events.
The government allocated ₹1.5 crore for a Kambala event in Bengaluru last year and has this year released ₹5 lakh each to 24 Kambalas in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, Siddaramaiah announced. He praised the care and attention given to the buffaloes, emphasizing the special bond between people and their animals. The Chief Minister stressed Kambala’s inclusive nature, enjoyed by all regardless of caste, creed, or religion, aligning with the Congress party’s message of unity and love. The event was also attended by Mangaluru MLA and Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, and district in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
