Fri Jan 10 19:29:17 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Pays ₹1,263 Crore for Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme
**Chennai, January 11, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Health Department on Friday released ₹1,262.91 crore as premium for the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS). Health Minister Ma. Subramanian presented a cheque to United India Insurance Company, covering 95% of the premium for 14.8 million beneficiary families (₹1,198.32 crore, or ₹849 per family) for the period January 11, 2025, to January 10, 2026. The remaining 5% of last year’s premium, totaling ₹64.59 crore, was also included in the payment.
Since its inception on July 23, 2009, CMCHIS has benefitted 145.8 million individuals, with a total expenditure of ₹13,991 crore. The scheme currently covers 2,157 hospitals (942 government and 1,215 private), offering 2,053 medical and surgical procedures, along with various diagnostic and follow-up services.
Special camps held across the state to commemorate former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s birth centenary added 99,935 new beneficiaries, including 9,796 in Chennai alone. Minister Subramanian also announced ₹1 crore in financial assistance to the families of six deceased government doctors through the Doctors Corpus Fund and presented awards to high-performing hospitals under CMCHIS. The event was attended by Health Secretary Supriya Sahu and Project Director A. Arun Thamburaj.
