**Bengaluru, January 11, 2025** – The theatre community of Bengaluru is mourning the impending demolition of H.N. Kalakshetra, a beloved performance space at National College, Jayanagar. Established in 1986 and named after renowned rationalist and writer Hosur Narasimhaiah, the venue is being replaced by a new state-of-the-art auditorium.

A farewell event organized by Rangasourabha theatre troupe and other community members will be held on Saturday to celebrate H.N. Kalakshetra’s legacy. The space, affectionately known as “H.N.”, has served as a vital hub for theatrical productions and cultural gatherings for nearly four decades. Its demolition has evoked strong emotional responses from artists, directors, playwrights, and audiences.

Actor and director Krishna Hebbale described H.N. as a “Peepal tree” providing shelter and mentorship to numerous theatre groups. He expressed hope that the new facility would be equally supportive of the artistic community. Keerthi Bhanu of the Sanchaya theatre troupe highlighted the venue’s significant contribution to amateur theatre and praised the dedication of its staff.

The event serves not only as a final farewell but also as a tribute to the space’s role in shaping Bengaluru’s cultural identity. The community hopes the replacement auditorium will maintain the welcoming and supportive atmosphere of its predecessor.
