Fri Jan 10 22:01:02 UTC 2025: ## Irreplaceable Singer Jayan Passes Away: Gopu Sundar Mourns Loss
**Kochi, January 10, 2025** – The Malayalam music industry is mourning the loss of renowned playback singer Jayan, whose unique voice and vibrant personality captivated audiences for decades. Music director Gopu Sundar, who collaborated extensively with Jayan, shared heartfelt memories of the singer, describing him as a “genuine human being” who enthusiastically shared his love for music.
Sundar recalled numerous musical events they shared, including performances featuring M.T. Vasudevan Nair’s favorite songs in Kozhikode and programs for Manorama. He also highlighted Jayan’s appreciation for a song he composed (lyrics by Ramesh Nair), recording the performance himself. Despite his lack of social media presence, Jayan remained aware of current trends and even answered Sundar’s call when he won the J.C. Daniel Award, though the call was brief.
Sundar revealed Jayan faced health challenges in his later years, attributing them to his youthful spirit and energy. He also noted that “Premikumbol Neeyum Njaanum…” was one of Jayan’s favorite songs they collaborated on.
Sundar emphasized Jayan’s remarkable energy in the recording studio, where he shared anecdotes about legendary singers like Babu Raj, Raja, and M.S. Viswanathan. He recalled that whenever Jayan sang, no other recording session was scheduled. Sundar fondly remembered Jayan’s call after their hit song “Olaanjali Kuruvi” (1983, directed by Ebriid Shine) became a sensation.
Sundar concluded with a poignant reflection: “Jayan’s voice was filled with romance, and there’s simply no one to replace him.” The news of Jayan’s passing has left a void in the Malayalam music scene, leaving behind a legacy of memorable songs and cherished memories.
