**COLUMBIA, SC** – University of South Carolina women’s basketball standout Ashlyn Watkins will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL, the program announced Tuesday. The injury occurred during Sunday’s victory over Mississippi State.

Watkins, a 6-foot-3 junior forward, has been a key contributor for the No. 2 Gamecocks throughout her three seasons. In 14 games this year, she averaged 7.2 points, a team-high 6.4 rebounds, and a team-best 1.9 blocks (fourth-most in the SEC). Her absence is a significant blow to a team vying for its fourth national championship.

The injury comes after a challenging start to the season for Watkins, who missed the opener due to a suspension following assault, battery, and kidnapping charges that were subsequently dismissed. Surgery is scheduled for Watkins in the coming weeks.
