Fri Jan 10 05:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Blue Origin Delays New Glenn’s Maiden Voyage Due to Ocean Conditions
**Cape Canaveral, FL** – Blue Origin has announced a slight delay to the inaugural launch of its New Glenn rocket. Originally scheduled for no earlier than January 10th, the NG-1 mission is now targeting no earlier than January 12th. The delay is attributed to unfavorable high sea states in the Atlantic Ocean, where the company plans to recover the booster.
The three-hour launch window remains unchanged, opening at 1 a.m. EST (6:00 UTC) on January 12th from Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The mission, a crucial National Security Space Launch certification flight, will carry the Blue Ring Pathfinder payload. This test flight aims to evaluate the flight, ground systems, and operational capabilities of Blue Ring, a project under the Defense Innovation Unit’s (DIU) Orbital Logistics prototype effort.
Blue Origin emphasized that the primary objective is a safe orbital insertion, acknowledging the ambitious nature of attempting an offshore booster landing on the first attempt. Jarrett Jones, SVP of New Glenn, stated, “This is our first flight and we’ve prepared rigorously…It’s time to fly. No matter what happens, we’ll learn, refine, and apply that knowledge to our next launch.” The company recently completed a successful integrated launch vehicle hotfire test, marking the final major pre-flight milestone.
