Fri Jan 10 10:44:54 UTC 2025: **Devastating Wildfires Ravage Los Angeles, Death Toll Rises to 10**

LOS ANGELES, CA – A third wildfire has erupted in the Los Angeles area, adding to the devastation already caused by two major blazes that have claimed at least 10 lives and destroyed over 10,000 homes and structures. The Kenneth fire, which ignited Thursday afternoon in West Hills, prompted further evacuations as firefighters struggle to contain the existing Palisades and Eaton fires.

Mayor Karen Bass warned of rapid fire spread due to high winds. The death toll, initially reported as seven, climbed to ten by Thursday evening, according to the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner. Sheriff Robert Luna described the scene as catastrophic, predicting a further rise in casualties.

The Palisades and Eaton fires have scorched over 30,000 acres, with each blaze responsible for the destruction of more than 5,000 structures. Nearly 180,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders, with another 200,000 under warnings. Over 285,000 residents are without power, and water and sewage infrastructure has suffered significant damage.

Affluent communities like Malibu and Pacific Palisades have been particularly hard hit, with entire blocks reduced to ash. High winds exceeding 70 mph fueled the rapid spread of the fires, which began on Tuesday. Celebrities are among those who have lost their homes.

While authorities investigate the cause of the fires, the National Weather Service forecasts stronger winds later Thursday. Governor Gavin Newsom deployed the National Guard to aid rescue efforts and prevent looting. President Biden pledged 100% federal funding for recovery efforts for the next 180 days, urging the incoming Trump administration to continue this support. He also called on Congress for further aid, emphasizing the need to avoid politicizing the disaster.
