Thu Jan 09 18:14:29 UTC 2025: ## Kozhikode’s Kaippurathupalam Lake to Host 10-Day Eco-Tourism Festival

**Kozhikode, Kerala, January 9, 2025** – A ten-day eco-tourism festival, “Kaiolam-2025,” will launch this Friday, January 12th, in Kaippurathupalam near Kozhikode, showcasing the region’s natural beauty. The festival, organized by approximately 50 residents’ associations, aims to promote the area’s mangrove forests and Kaippurathupalam lake as a sustainable tourism destination.

Public Works and Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas will inaugurate the event, which features a diverse range of activities including a country boat race, mud driving competition, vintage car expo, forest walks, a village market, and a floating restaurant. Entertainment will include stage shows, pet shows, and amusement rides for children.

The festival organizers hope to attract both domestic tourists and the attention of the district administration and tourism authorities to improve infrastructure and amenities in the area. For years, residents have actively combatted illegal waste dumping and other anti-social activities, even undertaking night patrols to protect the environment. They are now pushing for the installation of CCTV cameras to enhance security.

V. Udyayakumar, the festival’s general convener, highlighted the area’s potential for nature-based tourism initiatives such as pedal boating through the mangroves, safe angling spots, and expanded village food options. The festival’s estimated cost is ₹40 lakh, funded through public contributions and sponsorships. Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran will preside over the closing ceremony on January 19th. The organizers plan to submit a proposal outlining their vision for the area’s development to the Ministry of Tourism.
