Fri Jan 10 07:38:31 UTC 2025: **Supreme Court Sides with JEE Aspirants on Exam Attempts**
NEW DELHI, January 10, 2025 — The Supreme Court of India ruled Friday that students who dropped out of engineering colleges between November 5th and 18th, 2024, to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced will be allowed a third attempt at the exam. This decision follows the Joint Admission Board’s controversial reversal of a policy that initially granted three attempts to students who took their Class 12 exams in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The Board first announced the three-attempt policy on November 5th, only to retract it just thirteen days later. Twenty-two aspiring IIT students subsequently challenged the abrupt change in policy before the Supreme Court.
While the court refrained from judging the wisdom of the Board’s actions, it emphasized that the sudden withdrawal of the promised third attempt could not negatively impact students who had already acted upon the initial announcement. The court effectively upheld the initial promise for this specific group of students.
