Fri Jan 10 04:25:13 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Coal Mine Collapse Traps at Least 12 Miners

**Islamabad, January 10, 2025** – At least twelve miners are trapped in a Balochistan coal mine following a gas explosion and subsequent collapse, officials reported Thursday. The incident occurred in the Sanjdi area, outside Quetta.

Chief Mines Officer Abdul Ghani Baloch stated that a gas explosion triggered the collapse. Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that rescue teams are on-site attempting to extract the miners alive.

Provincial Minister for Mining and Minerals Mir Shoaib Noshirwani has ordered the deployment of additional rescue teams and warned of legal action against the mine owner if safety regulations were violated. He stressed the importance of stricter safety measures to prevent future accidents.

Coal mine accidents are common in Pakistan, often attributed to gas build-ups. A similar incident in the same area last June resulted in at least 11 fatalities from methane gas inhalation. The rescue operation is currently underway.
