Fri Jan 10 09:04:58 UTC 2025: ## FEMA Administrator on Ground in Southern California as Biden Approves Disaster Aid for Wildfire Victims

**Los Angeles, CA** – Following devastating wildfires across Southern California, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell is in the region today to assess damage and support ongoing state-led recovery efforts. President Biden has already approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Los Angeles County, unlocking federal aid for residents impacted by the fires.

Los Angeles County residents with disaster-related needs may be eligible for financial assistance from FEMA, covering uninsured or underinsured expenses. This aid can include funds for essential needs such as food, water, baby supplies, medication, and temporary housing. Assistance is also available for rental assistance, home repairs, and personal property losses.

FEMA emphasizes that those with insurance must file a claim with their provider before applying for federal aid; FEMA cannot duplicate insurance benefits. However, if insurance doesn’t cover all damages, supplemental federal assistance may be available.

Damage assessments are ongoing, and additional counties and forms of assistance may be added as needed. Residents in designated areas can apply for FEMA assistance online, by phone, or by mobile app. For more information on available aid and application methods, visit fema.gov/assistance/individual/program.
