**Chennai, January 10, 2025** – Experts from across the globe underscored the critical importance of food safety, sustainable farming practices, and international cooperation in ensuring global food security and public health at the International Conference on Food Science and Nutrition, held at Stella Maris College.
The two-day conference concluded Thursday with a keynote address by Sanu Jacob, Director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. Jacob emphasized the Indian government’s commitment to prioritizing food safety, highlighting its contribution to a healthier and more productive population. He stressed the shared responsibility of maintaining food quality throughout the entire supply chain, from farm to table, including proper handling, preservation, and contamination prevention.
The conference featured presentations from leading figures in the field, including Sridevi Annapurna Singh (Director, Central Food Technological Research Institute), Shobhana Kumar (Joint Director, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), and Imbenzi George (Honorary Consul General of Kenya, British Columbia, Canada). Discussions encompassed the multifaceted role of food, the nutritional value of traditional diets, the government’s role in boosting food exports and educating farmers, and the interconnectedness of food safety with human rights and climate change.
