**Chandigarh, January 10, 2025** – A thick blanket of fog engulfed large parts of Punjab and Haryana on Friday, severely impacting visibility and bringing frigid temperatures to the region. Fazilka recorded the lowest temperature at a chilling 2.4 degrees Celsius.
Amritsar experienced zero visibility due to dense fog, according to the meteorological department. Other affected areas included Ludhiana, Patiala, Chandigarh, Ambala, Hisar, and Karnal.
Minimum temperatures across Punjab ranged from 4.2 degrees Celsius in Pathankot to 6.5 degrees Celsius in Patiala. In Haryana, Ambala’s minimum was 7.4 degrees Celsius, while Hisar recorded a low of 4 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh, the joint capital, saw a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.
The cold weather conditions prompted some residents to take extreme measures to stay warm, with at least one individual reported using a burning gunny bag for warmth in an Amritsar vegetable market. The cold snap is expected to continue.
