Thu Jan 09 05:11:31 UTC 2025: ## Nvidia’s RTX 5090: Twice the Speed? Claims Met with Skepticism

**Las Vegas, NV** – Nvidia unveiled its new GeForce RTX 5090 at CES this week, boasting performance claims that have left tech enthusiasts both excited and cautiously optimistic. The company asserts the new card is twice as fast as its predecessor, the RTX 4090. However, this dramatic improvement hinges heavily on Nvidia’s proprietary AI-powered technologies like DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and the newly announced Multi-Frame Generation.

While impressive, the “twice as fast” claim only holds true when utilizing DLSS and Multi-Frame Generation, which can generate up to three additional frames per rendered frame. This boosts frame rates significantly, but only in games that support these features. Currently, over 700 games support Nvidia RTX features, and over 40% of Steam users have Nvidia RTX-capable graphics cards. This represents a substantial ecosystem, but it doesn’t encompass all games.

Nvidia’s own data reveals a more modest performance boost when relying solely on traditional rasterization. In these games, which still make up the majority, the RTX 5090 shows a 20-40% improvement over the RTX 4090 – a respectable upgrade, but far from a doubling of speed.

The visual quality of games using Multi-Frame Generation remains a point of contention. While potentially beneficial for demanding titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator, concerns persist regarding potential artifacts or compromises in image fidelity.

Independent benchmark tests are eagerly awaited to determine the RTX 5090’s true average performance across a wider range of games. Until then, Nvidia’s bold claims remain subject to scrutiny. Despite this, the company’s growing RTX ecosystem and substantial market share indicate the future of gaming graphics is increasingly intertwined with AI-enhanced technologies.
