Wed Jan 08 18:00:00 UTC 2025: ## LA County Schools Closed Amid Devastating Wildfires

**LOS ANGELES, CA** – Multiple school districts in Los Angeles County are closed Wednesday, January 8th, due to raging wildfires fueled by strong Santa Ana winds. Three major blazes erupted Tuesday, forcing thousands of families in Santa Clarita, Pacific Palisades, and the San Gabriel Valley to evacuate.

Palisades High School sustained significant damage from the Palisades Fire, according to officials. The closures affect numerous school districts across the county, including several Los Angeles Unified (LAUSD) schools. LAUSD Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho cited both the immediate danger from the fires and poor air quality as reasons for the closures. He indicated a decision on whether Thursday’s classes will be held online or in person will be announced by 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Several college campuses are also closed. The full list of affected schools and colleges was not included in the initial report. Firefighters continue to battle the blazes.
