Chennai, January 9, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) has submitted a proposal to the state government to fill approximately 2,000 vacant positions, addressing a significant staffing shortage impacting power supply maintenance.
The vacancies include 750 Assistant Engineer posts, 750 wiremen and helpers, and 500 non-technical staff positions. A senior TNPDCL official confirmed that the proposal is nearing approval, with recruitment to begin through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) once the green light is given. The official anticipates all vacancies will be filled by September 2025.
The shortage of technical staff has placed a heavy burden on existing employees, particularly those in operation and maintenance. According to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Engineers’ Union, in some areas, a single Assistant Engineer is responsible for overseeing two section offices and supporting staff. The Union has also requested that some vacancies be filled through internal promotions.
