**Kochi:** Businessman Boby Chemmannur, remanded in custody on charges of sexual assault against actress Honey Rose, had his bail application rejected by the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Chemmannur, arrested in Wayanad and brought to Kochi on Tuesday, was subsequently shifted to Kakkanad jail after a medical examination following a reported blood pressure spike.
The court, while rejecting bail, noted that the alleged offense was serious and there was a possibility of the accused influencing witnesses and repeating the crime. The prosecution presented digital evidence supporting their claim. While the defense argued the accusations were false and sought bail, claiming the video evidence presented was not relevant at this stage, the Magistrate rejected this and deemed the case serious enough to warrant remand. The court’s decision came after intense arguments, with the defense suggesting the complainant was seeking publicity.
Chemmannur’s advocate has announced an appeal against the bail rejection will be filed in the District Court on Wednesday. He remains in remand for 14 days. The charges against Chemmannur include sexual assault and violation under sections 75 (1), (4) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 6-7 of the IT Act.
