Thu Jan 09 05:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Trump Expresses Outrage Over Flag at Inauguration Coinciding with Carter’s Passing

**Washington D.C.** – President-elect Trump has voiced strong disapproval over the planned half-staffing of the American flag during his upcoming inauguration on January 20th, a measure honoring the late President Jimmy Carter. The flag will be flown at half-mast for 30 days following Carter’s death, a tradition dating back to 1954.

Trump, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, claimed that no American would be happy with this, falsely suggesting it’s unprecedented. He further baselessly accused Democrats of glee over the situation, alleging a lack of patriotism. This is not the first time a presidential inauguration has coincided with a period of national mourning and half-staffed flags; President Nixon’s second inauguration in 1973 took place while flags were at half-mast for President Truman.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre firmly rejected any suggestion that President Biden’s order to fly the flag at half-mast would be rescinded or altered. Trump’s comments, however, suggest a potential attempt to circumvent the long-standing tradition.
