**Mumbai, January 25, 2025** – A Mumbai cab driver’s desperate attempt to avoid loan repayments triggered a major security alert at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel today. The incident involved two nearly identical Maruti Suzuki Ertiga cars, both displaying the same commercial registration plate: MH01EE2388.
The duplication was discovered when the owner of one Ertiga, Sakir Ali, spotted the other vehicle near the Taj. The Taj Mahal, a high-security location following the 2008 terrorist attacks, prompted immediate action from authorities. Police swiftly apprehended both vehicles and their drivers.
Ali had been plagued for six months by traffic violation notices and toll evasion fines issued to his car, even though he claimed his vehicle was never in the locations cited. He’d even filed a complaint with the traffic police to no avail. He had previously spotted a similar car in Bandra but was unable to track it down.
The second driver, Prasad Kadam, confessed to altering the last digit of his registration plate (MH01EE2383) to evade loan recovery agents. He admitted to forging the number plate to prevent his car from being seized due to his inability to keep up with loan EMIs.
Police confirmed that the incident was not linked to any security threat, emphasizing that Kadam’s actions stemmed solely from his financial distress. Kadam has been arrested and is facing charges for his actions. The incident highlights the unintended consequences of desperate attempts to escape financial burdens.
