Wed Jan 08 17:33:18 UTC 2025: ## Kannur Bridge Construction to Resume After Years of Delays
**Kannur, Kerala – January 8, 2025** – Construction on the stalled Thuruthimukku Bridge, connecting Kannur and Kozhikode districts across the Mayyazhi River, is set to resume. The ₹17.95-crore project, initiated in 2019, had been delayed due to contractor withdrawal and land acquisition problems.
After the original contractor, Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society Limited, withdrew citing land acquisition delays, new tenders were issued. However, the KIIFB (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board) expert committee recommended a contract review due to a 27% cost overrun.
Following the intervention of K.P. Mohanan, MLA, KIIFB has now granted final financial approval. The Kerala Road Fund Board had already provided technical approval.
The revised project features a 204-meter bow-string arch bridge, along with 175-meter and 60-meter approach roads on the Kedani and Edacheri sides respectively. The bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity between the two districts.
