Wed Jan 08 14:48:54 UTC 2025: ## Supreme Court Holds Historic Out-of-Town Meeting in Visakhapatnam
**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh –** In an unprecedented move, the Supreme Court of India will hold a “full court” meeting in Visakhapatnam on January 11th and 12th. This marks the first time in the court’s history that such a meeting will be held outside of Delhi. Twenty-five judges, including Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, will attend, along with their families.
The initiative, spearheaded by Chief Justice Khanna, aims to provide a less stressful environment for the judges. The judges and their families will cover their travel expenses using the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme available to all Supreme Court employees. While some judges will remain in Visakhapatnam for the duration, others will depart after attending the meeting.
Sources within the Supreme Court indicate that Chief Justice Khanna consulted with senior Justices B.R. Gavai and Surya Kant before proposing the out-of-town meeting. The judges agreed that using the LTC scheme was a more cost-effective alternative to using court funds. The event is being described as a family vacation combined with official business.
While Chief Justice Khanna extended the invitation to all judges, 24 accepted, with others declining due to pre-existing commitments. The LTC scheme allows employees to avail of hometown travel benefits every two years and all-India travel benefits every four years. The Visakhapatnam meeting is expected to discuss various issues related to the Supreme Court’s operations.
