Wed Jan 08 05:52:02 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Air Quality Improves Slightly, But Cold Snap Looms
**New Delhi, January 8, 2025** – Delhi experienced a minor improvement in air quality on Tuesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) registering 296 (poor), down from 335 (very poor) the previous day. However, a significant cold snap is expected to hit the city in the coming days, with temperatures predicted to plummet to 5°C by Friday.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI had remained in the very poor category for the past week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a drop in minimum temperatures starting Wednesday. While the maximum temperature on Tuesday reached 16.2°C, the minimum was 10.5°C.
Dense fog caused visibility to drop to as low as 150 meters in some areas, resulting in delays for 25 trains. The IMD predicts mainly clear skies but with cold day conditions and the possibility of smog or fog in most areas, with dense fog likely in isolated locations in the mornings.
Following a recent dip in pollution levels attributed to improved wind speeds, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) lifted Stage 3 restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Sunday. However, Stage 1 and Stage 2 restrictions remain in effect across Delhi-NCR.
