Wed Jan 08 12:54:50 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) to Hold Three-Day Alappuzha District Conference

**Alappuzha, Kerala, January 8, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] will hold its three-day Alappuzha district conference in Haripad from January 10-12. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event and is expected to attend throughout.

The conference, to be held at the Sabaris Convention Centre, will see 407 delegates in attendance, representing 42,099 party members. CPI(M) district secretary R. Nazar stated that the conference will address setbacks faced by the Left Democratic Front in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the district. Mr. Nazar will present the organizational report on Friday, followed by discussions leading to the election of a new district committee and representatives for the state conference on January 12.

A seminar titled “Indian Democracy: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow,” inaugurated by CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan, will be held on the inaugural day. A public meeting, inaugurated by Chief Minister Vijayan, will conclude the conference on January 12th at Mannarasala ground.

Addressing rumors of a rift between senior CPI(M) leader G. Sudhakaran and the party leadership, Mr. Nazar affirmed Mr. Sudhakaran’s strong standing within the party and his continued participation in party activities, including the upcoming conference. He also defended legislator U. Prathibha’s actions concerning her son’s recent arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, stating that nine individuals were charged following an Excise department investigation. Finally, Mr. Nazar clarified that there have been no discussions regarding the CPI(M) taking over the Kuttanad Assembly seat from the NCP-SP.
