**Bengaluru, January 11, 2025** – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will have a new leader starting January 14th. V Narayanan, currently the head of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), has been appointed as the next ISRO Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Space. He succeeds S Somnath, whose tenure saw significant achievements including the successful Chandrayaan-3 moon landing.
Narayanan brings extensive experience in propulsion systems and space technology to the role. His previous positions include Director of LPSC, where he spearheaded the development of crucial cryogenic propulsion technology, and Chairman of the Project Management Council for Space Transportation Systems. He also chaired the National Level Human Rated Certification Board for the ambitious Gaganyaan mission.
Narayanan’s appointment is expected to ensure continuity of ISRO’s ambitious plans, including the upcoming Gaganyaan manned space mission and strengthening international collaborations with space agencies such as NASA, ESA, and JAXA. His deep technical knowledge and leadership qualities are seen as vital assets for ISRO’s strategic vision over the next decade.
