**New Delhi, January 8, 2025** – A Delhi court has adjourned the verdict in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots murder case against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar until January 21st. The case involves the alleged killings of Jaswant Singh and his son, Tarundeep Singh, in the Saraswati Vihar area during the riots.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who was initially scheduled to deliver the verdict today, postponed the announcement. Mr. Kumar, currently imprisoned in Tihar jail, appeared via video conferencing.
The charges against Mr. Kumar stem from events on November 1, 1984, following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The prosecution alleges Mr. Kumar led a mob that attacked the Singh family home, resulting in the deaths of Jaswant and Tarundeep Singh, along with looting and arson. The court framed charges against Mr. Kumar in December 2021, finding sufficient evidence to suggest his involvement as a leader of the mob. While the Punjabi Bagh police station initially registered the case, a special investigation team later took over the investigation. The court’s decision on January 21st will conclude this long-running case.
