Wed Jan 08 07:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Missing Chinese Actor Found in Myanmar, Possibly a Victim of Human Trafficking

**Bangkok, Thailand** – A 22-year-old Chinese actor, Wang Xing, who went missing last week near the Thai-Myanmar border, has been found in Myanmar, Thai authorities announced Tuesday. Preliminary investigations suggest he was a victim of human trafficking linked to a telecommunications scam operation.

Wang, who had been filming in Thailand, disappeared on January 3rd in Tak Province, a region notorious for organized crime and human trafficking. His disappearance sparked widespread concern in China and prompted a swift response from Thai authorities, who feared negative repercussions for the country’s vital tourism sector, heavily reliant on Chinese visitors.

Thai Immigration Police Bureau chief Thatchai Pitaneelaboot stated that Wang was located in Mae Sot, a border town, by Myanmar border forces and is awaiting repatriation to Thailand. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra confirmed the news, emphasizing the connection between Wang’s disappearance and a Myanmar-based telecom fraud ring. A Thai special forces colonel corroborated the account.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry is actively monitoring the situation and working with the Chinese embassy. The incident highlights the growing concern over human trafficking in Southeast Asia, particularly along the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, which have become hubs for transnational telecommunications and other online scams. The UN has noted the exploitation of hundreds of thousands of victims from across Asia and beyond. Thailand is keen to resolve the matter quickly to mitigate any potential damage to its tourism industry, which welcomed 6.74 million Chinese tourists in 2022.
