Tue Jan 07 10:59:20 IST 2025: ## Yadgir District Hospital Finally Gets Long-Awaited Blood Bank
**YADGIR, January 7, 2025** – After years of advocacy, the Yadgir District Hospital in Karnataka finally opened a much-needed blood bank on January 6th. The inauguration was presided over by the Minister for Small Scale Industries and Public Enterprises, Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, at the Yadgir Institute of Medical Science (YIMS), which is affiliated with the district hospital.
The establishment of the blood bank follows years of persistent efforts by local MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur, health officials, and YIMS staff. The need for the facility was repeatedly highlighted, including during a recent visit by the Medical Education Minister, Sharan Prakash Patil, who pledged support.
The new blood bank is expected to significantly improve healthcare in the district. Previously, the hospital relied on private blood banks in Kalaburagi and Raichur, receiving only an average of 150 units per month—a stark contrast to the new facility’s capacity to store at least 800 units monthly. District Surgeon Rizwana Afreen expressed relief at the increased blood supply capacity.
Minister Darshanapur lauded the achievement and committed to securing funding for additional equipment. MLA Tunnur, instrumental in securing the blood bank, urged doctors to actively promote blood donation among the public and organizations. To set an example, YIMS Dean Sandeep and Dr. Afreen donated blood at the inauguration ceremony.
The event also marked the opening of a new nursing college at YIMS. The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela and CEO Lavish Ordia.
