Tue Jan 07 09:00:52 UTC 2025: ## Jan Suraaj Party Leader Prashant Kishor Hospitalized After Hunger Strike

**Patna, Bihar –** Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor was hospitalized Tuesday morning at Medanta Hospital in Patna after suffering from acute stomach pain. Kishor had been on a hunger strike since January 2nd, demanding a re-test of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) preliminary examination.

His hospitalization follows his arrest and subsequent release on Monday. Kishor was detained for protesting at Gandhi Maidan, a location where protests are prohibited, and subsequently released on bail without conditions. A party official attributed his illness to four nights spent sleeping outdoors.

Kishor’s hunger strike was in support of hundreds of BPSC exam candidates who have been protesting since December 18th, alleging irregularities in the December 13th exam. These allegations include malfunctioning CCTV cameras and jammers, and late distribution of question papers. The protests intensified after a candidate died by suicide on December 25th.

Following a march to meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on December 29th, and receiving no response to the demand for a re-test, Kishor initiated his hunger strike. The protests continue, with independent MP Pappu Yadav calling for a Bihar bandh (shutdown) on January 12th. Students continue to protest at a designated site in Gardanibagh.
