Kolkata, Jan 7, 2025 – Uncertainty surrounds the observance of Students’ Week (January 2-8) in West Bengal colleges due to a lack of official government directives. While schools received guidelines on December 20th, colleges are divided on whether to proceed with planned events under the Students’ Week banner.
Several colleges have independently organized events, while others are incorporating them into existing programs or postponing until receiving formal approval. Principals interviewed expressed their students’ enthusiasm for the planned activities, which include competitions, workshops on government scholarships, and other events. However, the absence of a formal order from the state government has left many hesitant to proceed officially.
Students’ Week, initiated in 2022, was largely online due to the pandemic. Its wider celebration began in 2023. The program aims to ease students into the new academic year through various engaging activities. The contrasting experiences of schools and colleges highlight the communication gap regarding the implementation of this state-sponsored initiative.
