Tue Jan 07 02:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Indiana Hit by Heaviest Snowstorm in Years

**Indianapolis, IN – January 6, 2025** – After three mild winters, Indiana experienced a significant snowstorm over the weekend, bringing much-needed snowfall to the state. The heaviest snowfall, exceeding expectations, occurred south of Interstate 70, with significantly less accumulation reported in the northern counties.

The National Weather Service Indianapolis reported an official total of 7.8 inches in Indianapolis, making it the city’s snowiest storm since February 2021. This surpasses the combined seasonal snowfall totals of the past three winters. Several areas south of I-70 reported even higher totals, with North Vernon in Jennings County recording a remarkable 13 inches. Other high totals included 12 inches in Westport (Decatur County), and accumulations of 10 or more inches in several counties, including Lawrence, Jackson, Jennings, Brown and Bartholomew.

While northern-central Indiana received less snow than anticipated, the storm delivered a substantial amount across most of the state, signaling a potential shift towards a colder and more active winter pattern. The National Weather Service anticipates occasional flurries and snow showers in the coming days, with another potential significant snowfall event predicted for Friday and Saturday. The exact amount of snowfall is yet to be determined.
