Tue Jan 07 11:54:58 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Assembly Elections Set for February 5, 2025

**NEW DELHI** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Delhi Assembly elections will be held on February 5, 2025, with vote counting scheduled for February 8th. This single-phase election will cover all 70 assembly constituencies across the national capital. The current legislative assembly’s term concludes on February 23, 2025.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the dates, noting that India is nearing 990 million voters. He also addressed concerns raised by political parties regarding the electoral process, including potential inaccuracies in the electoral rolls and the integrity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Kumar stated that political parties are involved in every stage of electoral roll preparation, with opportunities for objections and full transparency. He cited numerous Supreme Court and High Court judgments upholding the reliability of EVMs.

Delhi’s electoral roll includes over 1.55 crore voters, with 83.49 lakh male, 71.73 lakh female, and 1,261 third-gender voters. Over 2.08 lakh first-time voters are also registered. The 2020 elections saw a landslide victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), winning 62 out of 70 seats.

The ECI’s announcement marks the beginning of the campaign period for the upcoming election, with all eyes on whether the AAP can retain its dominance or if the BJP can make significant gains.
