Tue Jan 07 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Strong Earthquake Shakes Nepal Border, Tremors Felt Across India
**New Delhi, January 7:** A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck near the Nepal border in Tibet on Tuesday morning, sending tremors across several parts of India, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake occurred at 6:35 AM, with its epicenter located in the Shizhaing area of Tibet. News agency ANI released video footage showing the impact, with videos from Bihar’s Siwan district depicting swaying chandeliers and ceiling fans in homes. Another video from near Lobuche, Nepal, 93 km northeast of the epicenter, showed widespread panic as people fled buildings and trees shook violently.
While there were widespread reports of tremors, authorities have not yet reported any casualties or significant property damage in India. This quake follows a 3.7 magnitude earthquake in Palghar, Maharashtra, on Monday, and a 4.8 magnitude quake in Nepal on January 2nd. Both earlier events resulted in no reported injuries or damage.
The NCS advised people on safety measures during earthquakes, including dropping to the ground, taking cover under sturdy furniture, and staying away from windows and doorways. Those outdoors were urged to move away from buildings and power lines.
The series of recent seismic events highlights the region’s susceptibility to earthquakes and underscores the importance of preparedness. Further updates on potential damage and aftershocks are expected.
