Mon Jan 06 19:47:12 IST 2025: ## Karnataka High Court Rejects Plea to Dismiss FIR in Bengaluru Techie’s Suicide Case

**Bengaluru, [Date]** – The Karnataka High Court today rejected a plea to quash the First Information Report (FIR) filed against Nikita Singhania in connection with the suicide of her estranged husband, Atul Subhash, a Bengaluru-based techie. Subhash died by suicide last month, allegedly due to harassment and a demand for a ₹3 crore divorce settlement from Singhania.

Justice SR Krishna Kumar’s single-bench court deemed that the FIR, filed under Sections 108, 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide, contained sufficient evidence to warrant an investigation. The court questioned Singhania’s counsel’s argument that the complaint lacked sufficient grounds for the FIR, noting that the prima facie evidence suggested abetment to suicide. The court also dismissed claims that Subhash hadn’t explicitly mentioned his wife’s actions as a contributing factor to his suicide.

Singhania and her family had previously been granted bail by a Bengaluru court on January 4th. However, Subhash’s family intends to appeal the High Court’s decision.

The case centers around allegations of harassment and financial demands made by Singhania, including claims that she taunted Subhash in court, forcing him to choose between paying ₹3 crore or taking his own life. Conversely, Singhania’s family alleges Subhash demanded a substantial dowry, leading to the death of her father.

Subhash’s father, Pavan Kumar Modi, expressed concerns about the safety of his grandson, citing Singhania’s past behavior and financial demands. The family is seeking custody of the child. The High Court has issued notices to respondents, ordering them to file objections and the prosecution to submit investigative materials.
