**London, January 6, 2025** – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer today condemned the spread of online misinformation, stating that those disseminating lies are solely self-interested and disregard victims. His comments followed recent attacks by Elon Musk, a close ally of US President-elect Donald Trump, regarding the handling of child sexual abuse cases.

Musk’s criticisms centered on the government’s prosecution service, previously headed by Starmer, and called for a national inquiry into the handling of cases involving men of Pakistani heritage. This comes in the wake of a 2014 inquiry that revealed at least 1,400 children were sexually exploited in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

Starmer, while not directly criticizing Musk, described the pattern of online attacks as a familiar playbook involving intimidation and threats designed to be amplified by media coverage. He highlighted serious threats received by his safeguarding minister, Jess Phillips, who was labeled a “rape genocide apologist” by Musk on X. Starmer declared that such actions, stemming from far-right sources, cross a line.
