Sun Jan 05 18:28:29 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Unveils Ambitious Green Energy Policy

**Hyderabad, January 5, 2025** – The Telangana government announced a new green energy policy aimed at attracting ₹1.98 lakh crore in investment, creating 1.14 lakh jobs, and reducing the state’s carbon intensity by at least one-third over the next decade. The policy focuses on developing 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity, including battery storage, by 2030.

The initiative aims to bolster Telangana’s energy security, provide affordable power, and promote self-sufficiency in the power sector. Key objectives include developing solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy projects, along with robust energy storage systems.

To achieve these goals, the government will implement a transparent resource allocation process, utilizing competitive bidding for solar and wind energy procurement. Government land will be allocated at a nominal lease for wind and pumped storage projects, prioritizing locations with high potential. Floating solar projects will be encouraged, utilizing reservoirs and incentivizing private investment where state-owned resources are not fully utilized. The policy also includes provisions to promote local employment, particularly empowering women’s self-help groups (SHGs) through distributed solar plant development.

The government will establish a nodal agency to identify and assess potential pumped storage sites, with the state reserving the right of first refusal for a significant portion of project capacity. This comprehensive approach underscores Telangana’s commitment to mitigating climate change and transitioning to a sustainable energy future.
