**KARACHI, PAKISTAN** – Pakistan’s promising opening batsman, Saim Ayub, will receive specialized treatment in London after fracturing his right ankle during the second Test against South Africa. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision Sunday, aiming to ensure Ayub’s fitness for the upcoming Champions Trophy, starting February 19th.
Ayub, ruled out for at least six weeks, will be accompanied to London by assistant coach Azhar Mahmood. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated that the decision followed consultation with medical professionals and underscored Ayub’s importance to the team. “He’s a very good stylish batter and is an asset of Pakistan,” Naqvi said. “We are worried about his injury and he will get the best treatment.”
The Champions Trophy, hosted by Pakistan, will see a geographically dispersed tournament due to India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan over security concerns. India will play all their matches in Dubai. Pakistan will face New Zealand in their opening Group A match in Karachi. Other Group A teams include Bangladesh and India. Group B consists of England, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan. Matches will be held in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
