Mon Jan 06 22:24:44 IST 2025: ## Shiv Sena (UBT) Defends Kejriwal, Attacks Modi’s Spending in Saamana Editorial
**Mumbai, January 7, 2025** – The Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece, Saamana, has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, defending Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal against Modi’s recent criticism. Following Modi’s Sunday rally labelling AAP a “disaster” and criticizing Kejriwal’s renovated official residence, Saamana’s editorial accused Modi of hypocrisy, highlighting the lavish spending on government bungalows by other ministers, including Maharashtra’s former Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis.
The editorial pointed to the alleged ₹1.5 crore spent on Kejriwal’s bungalow as a comparatively smaller issue compared to the “royal” renovations undertaken by other ministers. It further criticized the cost of Modi’s new residence as part of the Central Vista project and the purchase of a ₹15,000 crore airplane for his world tours, contrasting this with the frugality of previous Prime Ministers. The editorial also highlighted Modi’s personal expenses, questioning his image as a frugal leader.
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule responded sharply, criticizing Uddhav Thackeray for the editorial and praising Modi’s humble beginnings and dedication to the nation. Bawankule also criticized Thackeray’s record as Chief Minister. The editorial also targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s accusations against Kejriwal, arguing that Shah’s criticism is hypocritical considering the scale of Modi’s residence.
The Saamana editorial comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections and represents a significant political development, highlighting the growing rift between the BJP and its opposition parties.
