Mon Jan 06 22:42:01 IST 2025: ## Bihar BPSC Protest: Prashant Kishor Briefly Jailed, Then Released on Unconditional Bail

**Patna, Bihar:** Prashant Kishor, political strategist and leader of the Jan Suraj campaign, was briefly detained and sent to Beur Jail in Patna after refusing initial bail conditions related to his protest for Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam candidates. He had been staging a sit-in at Gandhi Maidan.

Kishor’s detention followed a warning from the Patna District Magistrate about strict action against further protests at Gandhi Maidan. Despite the threat, Kishor maintained he would continue his protest until justice was served to the BPSC candidates. He stated he had only consumed water during his detention.

Later in the evening, the court revoked all bail conditions, releasing Kishor on an unconditional bail after he posted a personal bond of ₹25,000. In a press conference following his release, Kishor stated the court acknowledged he had committed no crime. He also announced plans for a large meeting to strategize further action regarding the BPSC exam issue and said that he would pursue legal avenues to ensure a re-examination. Kishor claimed that he had received support from several policemen who, though unable to openly express solidarity due to their jobs, sympathized with his cause and the plight of the BPSC aspirants. He reiterated his commitment to the protest, emphasizing the power of the people over governmental force. He confirmed his intention to continue his protest in Gandhi Maidan.

Separately, other news includes the arrest of the main suspect in the murder of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, who fled to Hyderabad after the crime; and the detection of the first case of the HMPV virus in India, originating in China.
